An office chair with castors is convenient as it allows you to easily roll across the floor. It's ideal for the office, enabling you to move the chair to another workspace with ease. But of course, it's useful at home too. The office chair castors must be suitable for the floor type. This is often an issue with hard floors. That's why we always recommend using soft castors on hard floors!

What should I look out for when buying office chair castors?

The most important thing is the floor on which you will be using the office chair castors. Always use soft castors on hard floors. On carpeted floors, you should use hard castors. Hard ones have less resistance, making them easier to roll. Often, four office chair castors are ordered, while you need 5 for an office chair. Keep this in mind!

Mounting office chair castors, how does it work? 

An office chair castor is always attached with a grip ring stem, this connects the wheel to the chair. The stem has two ends: one end goes into the wheel, and the other goes into the chair. The stem can have two sizes, meaning two different diameters. The diameter of the part that goes into the chair determines which  size you need. Below is an example for clarity.

Choosing the right size of the grip ring stem

Our castors have a hole size of 10mm. So all our grip ring stems have a diameter of 10mm by the part that goes into the wheel. The diameter of the part that goes into the chair is always 10 or 11mm for an office chair. You will need to measure this part.

When you have the correct sizes, the assembly is very simple. We ensure that the castors and stems are already put together. You just need to push the stem into the chair.

Maintaining and cleaning office chair castors

Office chair castors require little maintenance. However, we recommend cleaning them occasionally with a damp cloth. If the wheels are very dirty, you can use a mild cleaning solution. Avoid using harsh chemicals such as bleach.

Office chair castors or floor mats: which is better?

Office chair castors are more user-friendly and risk-free. A floor mat is placed under your office chair to protect the floor from damage. However, if you move your chair off the mat, the hard wheels will still come into contact with the floor and cause damage. Additionally, if you want to use the chair somewhere else, you’ll need to take the mat with you. That’s why we always recommend using office chair castors instead of a floor mat.
