In a world where sustainability is increasingly becoming the norm, the flooring industry is not lagging behind. Due to various innovative solutions, less periodic (and polluting) maintenance is required for the floor and the floor lasts longer. This makes good floor protection all the more important.

Annual stripping with chemicals

Many business premises, institutions or public buildings use a linoleum or marmoleum floor. These floors are stripped annually with a chemical alkaline agent. In short, the polymer layer (top layer) of the floor is loosened, and a new polymer layer is applied further on in the process. When the polymer layer is loosened, the waste water is discharged into the sewer. In this way, millions of litres of chemicals are discharged directly into the sewer each year.

Sustainable solutions

Currently, the flooring industry is experiencing various shifts towards more sustainable solutions. Major flooring manufacturers are developing environmentally responsible coatings that ensure that the floor will last for years without polluting treatments. Several major floor maintenance companies are also taking the lead in sustainability. For some, polymers are even a thing of the past and sustainable means are being chosen to treat the floor. As a result, the floor does not need an annual new top coating and machine cleaning is sufficient. This makes the floor last longer and prevents polluted waste water from ending up in the sewer.

Floor protection even more important

Innovations such as those mentioned above ensure that a floor lasts for years longer. Nevertheless, a floor is of course never completely free of wear. Logically, the right floor protection is therefore all the more important. After all, a large part of the damage to the floor is caused by sliding furniture. Often, no or the wrong floor protection products are used. Common products such as felt and Teflon wear out quickly and are not completely scratch-free. The only solution that fits in with the current sustainable solutions is therefore Scratch no More. The furniture glides, provided with polyamide fibres, last eight times longer than felt and are also completely scratch-free.

In this way, the lifespan of the floor is significantly extended by innovative maintenance solutions and sustainable floor protection products. This is better for both the environment and your wallet in the long term.
